Recommendations for public warnings from social science research

We present and discuss recommendations for public warnings based on the research project “Psychological and Social Aspects of Warnings for the Population” (SAWaB).
From 2018-2020, we, researchers from the universities of Jena and Greifswald conducted a research project (Psychological and Social Aspects of Warnings for the Population; SAWaB) about social science perspectives on public warnings for the German Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK) (the project report will be published in autumn 2021). The project resulted in user-centered recommendations for public warnings, which will also be published in cooperation with the BBK. The recommendations address persons in public authorities responsible for public warnings.

In this workshop, we will discuss key recommendations based on the state of the art, scholarly literature, and our own research with potential end-users, e.g. participants from fire brigades, and workshop participants.
