Fostering European Exchange: Transformations towards a sustainable and resilient future (Session in English)
In response to the recent flood events in Europe, this event will discuss how a transformation towards a resilient and sustainable future can be achieved.
Flood disaster and hydro-meteorological events are getting more severe all over Europe. In preparation to the Fachtagung Katastrophenvorsorge panellists from DKKV, AFPCN, and DCNA will present lessons-learned and lessons-to-learn from recent disaster from their respective countries. Structured along three main questions it will be discussed how we can learn from past events and what transformations are required to achieve a more resilient future within Europe.

René Kastner is a Sociology graduate from the University of Graz and is engaged in the field of social-scientific disaster research since 2009. Within the framework of a research stay in New Orleans, Lousiana, he documented the reconstruction after hurricane Katrina over several months. Mr. Kastner extended his specialized knowledge through the collaboration with numerous relief forces and continual participation in disaster related conferences domestically and abroad. Since 2017 he is regularly engaged as a guest lecturer at the German Academy for Crisis Management, Emergency Planning and Civil Protection.

Reimund Schwarze heads the Department of Climate Economics at the Helmholtz-Centre for Environmental Research - UFZ in Leipzig and he is member of the executive board at DKKV. Furthermore, he is the Chair of International Environmental Economics at the European University Viadrina and holds a position in the European UNDRR Science-and-Technology Expert Advisory Group (STAG).

Ronja Winkhardt-Enz works as a research associate at DKKV. After completing her Master's degree in "Geography of Environmental Risks and Human Security" at the University of Bonn and the UNU-EHS, she now supports the DKKV in networking activities and project work. Her focus lies, in particular, on networking with members, and stakeholders from the local, the municipal, as well as the international level.
